The 2026 TEDxVictoria speaker lineup is out, and the date is approaching. This year's theme is Uncharted, inviting audiences to explore the idea that where the map ends, ideas begin.

It's also a new chapter for the event itself. TEDxVictoria will take the stage on October 7th at the University of Victoria's Farquhar Auditorium, marking the event's move to a larger venue as it continues to grow.

The best ideas begin where the map ends

Building something new rarely comes with a playbook. Entrepreneurship means making real decisions with incomplete information, testing ideas, watching what happens, and adjusting course as new insights emerge. That's true whether you're founding a company or trying to scale one.

What worked in the past doesn't always prepare a business, or a community, for what's next. The instinct to lean on old answers is strong, especially when those answers have worked before. But the moments that matter most are usually the ones where the old playbook stops applying, and a different perspective becomes the thing that moves you forward.

Mapping the human side of new technology

Dr. Trefor Bazett and Faraz Forghan-Parast are wrestling with the tools reshaping how we think, create, and care for one another.

Faraz asks the question many of us haven't worked up the nerve to sit with yet: as AI changes how we write and communicate, what remains irreducibly human? Trefor approaches that same uncertainty from a different angle, showing how mathematical thinking and curiosity can help us navigate AI, climate change, and an increasingly complex world.

Navigating crisis, policy, and the public good

Lisa Lapointe, Dr. Tamara Krawchenko, Dana Tizya-Tramm, and Daniel So have spent their careers making decisions where the stakes are high, and the ground keeps shifting.

Lisa has been a leader through some of British Columbia's defining public crises, demonstrating how evidence, humility, and adaptability become essential when the stakes couldn't be higher. Tamara explores how governance shapes everyday life, bringing a global perspective to energy transitions and community resilience. Dana is helping Indigenous Nations shape a future where they own, govern, and benefit from their data, AI systems, and digital infrastructure. Jade Fischer, Jon Willis, and Naomi Casiro are exploring the frontiers of science, where many of the answers are still out of reach.

Jade is developing next-generation cancer treatments that could dramatically reduce the side effects of radiation therapy. Jon explores some of humanity's biggest questions—from the search for life beyond Earth to the origins of the universe—while Naomi is rethinking how we age, challenging us to stop avoiding falls and start training for them instead.

Protecting the planet and coast we call home

Lilly Woodbury is turning environmental concern into meaningful action, demonstrating how policy change begins by making the stakes feel personal.

From coastal conservation to plastic reduction, Lilly connects advocacy, storytelling, and policy to inspire action. Her work reminds us that lasting environmental change begins when people feel connected to the places they're trying to protect.

Reimagining creativity and community

Jenny Farkas and Keegan Connor Tracy are rewriting what's possible in art, reinvention, and the spaces where creativity grows.

Jenny is creating opportunities for artists and makers by expanding access to the tools, mentorship, and community that help creativity flourish. Keegan is embracing creative reinvention across acting, directing, writing, and education, demonstrating that it's never too late to write a new chapter.
